THE CENTRAL CAROLINA Radio
Control (CCRC) club in High Point, North
Carolina, held another “Cub” fly-in this past
summer. There were Cubs galore in all
colors and sizes. If you are this type of fan,
this is the place to be. Along with the flying
and fun, there is plenty to eat at the snack
bar, especially Hack’s famous hot dogs.
Robert Underwood kept everything
organized for a safe and fun-filled day of
flying. Everyone had a good time and I do
not recall a single mishap.
Along with the snack bar, Steve
Underwood served watermelon during the
noon break in flying. The pilots were from
surrounding towns and clubs. There were a
few from out of state who came to enjoy the
event.
CCRC had a number of prizes for pilots
and spectators alike. This club is well
organized and has several events throughout
the season ranging from Cub Day to racing,
an Open House, and helicopter events.
CCRC has been a Gold Leader Club for
more than five years.
When you are in the area, join in the fun.
This is what modeling is all about.

More Cubs of all sizes, bottom-wing version.
The West Hickory Aero Modelers club in
North Carolina held its annual Warbirds
Over Wilson Field in June 2008.
Approximately 30 pilots from surrounding
clubs and states attended. Models included
those depicting WW I and WW II aircraft
through modern-day airplanes.
The weather was almost perfect—not too
hot and hardly any wind. CD Greg Hames
kept everything moving calmly. During the
event, raffle tickets and 50/50 chances were
sold to help defray expenses.
Drowning Creek Fire Department
handled the food chores and kept everyone
satisfied. These events help their causes too,
increasing their funds to help purchase new
equipment.
A number of pilots came in on Friday
and were ready to fly early Saturday
morning. Those people got in a full day of
flying. Some of the local merchants
furnished door prizes for the pilots and
articles for the raffle.
If you are in the Hickory area, come by
and try out the field and enjoy flying. The
club will welcome you.
