I AM BUSY finalizing the locations and dates
of the 2007 AMA District V fly-ins. I have
decided to have four this year and I will
announce the location and dates in the next
issue of MA, so please stay tuned!
With a new year come new challenges.
AMA is working on some new ideas and
programs to reward clubs when they recruit a
new member. Is your club trying to grow?
Unfortunately, some have membership
limits and do not promote new members into
the club. I encourage everyone to share our
wonderful hobby with someone new this year
and invite him or her out to the flying field.
Who knows? The new member may become
your new flying buddy!
I will be in South Florida for several events
from January through March. I hope to meet
many of our district members at your flying
site!
District V Associate Vice President (AVP)
Owen Maupin sent in the following report
about the Bradley County R/C Model Aircraft
Club’s Fly for Kids event held October 14,
2006 in Cleveland, Tennessee.
This is a sampling of the airplanes on hand.
There were 25 registered pilots.
The kids had a great time with the glider
contest. Everyone got prizes or candy.
“It was one of those fall days that you just
dream about. The weather could not have
been better. By 10:30 we were taking our
jackets off and getting ready for a great day.
“Club president James Patterson and
secretary Jeannine Patterson did an
outstanding job of organizing the event. Much
work goes into putting on an event.
“Sponsors included Museum Center 5
Point, Certified Car Care, Top Tech
Automotive, Gobbles Automotive, Galaxy
Lanes on Baldwin Street, Tri State Imports,
Trucks ’N Trailers, Cleveland Boat Center
and Employees, Ballard Auto Parts, Friday
Night Mixed Bowling League, Tuesday Night
Women’s and Men’s Leagues, Berry Pearson,
and a special thanks to the B Man for giving
us a great live remote for our fun-fly. Thanks
to the Cleveland Daily Banner for advertising
our fun-fly at no charge.
“It takes a lot of beating the bushes to get
this kind of involvement from the business
community. What a worthwhile cause it is
though. The event raised $1,060.07. That will
put a lot of presents under the Christmas tree
and a lot of joy in the children’s hearts! This is
an annual event for the club so if you think
you are going to be in the Cleveland,
Tennessee, area in mid-October next year,
come on out for a great time and a chance to
do some real good at the same time.
“The club Web site is www.bcrcmac.org
or you can contact James or Jeannine
Patterson at [email protected].
Congratulations to the entire club for a job
well done!”

AVP Disk Tonan sent in the following report
about the Middle Tennessee RC Clubs
Association (MTRCCA) regional fun-fly on
October 7-8, 2006 in Cedar Hill, Tennessee.
“The first annual MTRCCA regional fly-in
was held at the Volunteer State Model
Aviators field in Cedar Hill, Tennessee, on the
first weekend in October. The five member
clubs pooled their resources and manpower to
organize a fly-in that will be long remembered
as a well-run, successful event.
“In spite of high winds on Saturday that
abated nicely on Sunday, we had 60 registered
pilots with a wide variety of models ranging
from .40-size to a 50% Giant. The flying
styles exhibited had every bit as much variety
from sedate Cubs and such flying scalelike to
wild 3-D aerobatics.
“The great mix was handled well because
we had teams of experienced personal
handling operations and safety. The team
members were easily identifiable; the safety
team wore bright green jerseys and the
operational team wore bright yellow ones
much like the deck crew on an aircraft carrier.
Here are some of the team members who
helped with the MTRCCA event.
This picture illustrates the flightline and pit
area. Dominating the scene is Greg
Garrison’s 50% CAP.
“We were pleased with the extraordinary
support we received from our sponsors. We
were able to offer door prizes virtually every
hour on both days of the event. Donors
included Action Hobby, Clarksville TN;
Danielle’s R/C Specialists, Whites Creek TN;
G & L Hobbies, Cookeville TN; Hobby
Lobby International, Brentwood TN;
HobbyTown USA, Franklin TN; Horizon
Hobby, Champaign IL; PAC RC Hobbies,
Smyrna TN; Pizza Hut #014405, Clarksville
TN; Scott Harris/Wild Cat Fuels, Nashville
TN; and Tower Hobbies, Champaign IL.
“Thank you to the Volunteer State Model
Aviators for the use of the club’s field. Our
second annual regional fly-in will be
scheduled for early fall 2007 at a site yet to be
chosen. We are going to apply the lessons
learned during our inaugural event and host a
fly-in you won’t want to miss. We’ll keep you
informed of the details as they become available."
