162 Model AviAtion
FOR THE PAST nine years, the
Blackhawk R/C Pilots, AMA chartered club
792, have sponsored E/xpo, an indoor
electric fly-in at the University of Northern
Iowa in Cedar Falls.
Each year the audience and number of
pilots attending has grown, and this year was
no exception. More than 80 pilots came in
from Wisconsin, Nebraska, Minnesota,
Illinois, and Missouri, and the spectators
numbered in the hundreds.
The UNI Dome is an indoor football
stadium capable of holding 17,000
spectators. Imagine an area that can
accommodate four disciplines at one time:
helicopters in one end zone, rubber-powered
FF in the other end zone, and 3-D and slower
circular pattern flying in the center. All of
this activity without frequency problems is
because of the newer technology of 2.4 GHz.
Our hobby has come a long was baby.
The Blackhawk R/C Pilots have already
scheduled the 2010 fly-in for February 20-
21. Thanks to Neal Leeper for the report and
pictures.
Larry Boulet of the Radio Control Club of
Detroit (RCCD) forwarded this report of the
club’s recent mall show in Roseville,
Michigan.
RCCD is one of the most active clubs
involved in community activities throughout
the year. The mall show is the kickoff of the
season. The club is actively involved with
various local youth organizations, and holds
youth day programs during the flying season.
The club also hosts charity flying events
as well and is still able to hold competitive
events. RCCD is an example of what can be
done with a little bit of work and a dedicated
membership.
Till next time, fly safely, have fun, and
introduce a youngster to our hobby.
