February 2005 161
SEPTEMBER 11, 2001: This was a terrible
day for the United States, one that we will
not forget. The 495th R/C Squadron chose to
remember this day by dedicating the name
of its flying site to one of the pilots
involved, Captain John Ogonoski.
Captain Ogonoski was a resident of
Dracut, Massachusetts, a local farmer, and a
respected member of the community.
I had hoped that one of the pictures taken
that day would be on the cover of MA or an
article would be written. It appears that is
not going to happen so I will devote this
column to that event.
This is a photo of the sign just before the
unveiling. This sign and the dedication
was a result of considerable planning and
work by the club’s members.
Club president Ron Quattrochi addresses
the audience.
This is the family of Captain John
Ogonoski.
American Airlines first officer Manny
Pereira, who had flown with Captain
Ogonoski, shares his thoughts.
An aerial shot shows the pit area. This is a
beautiful facility.
Cheryl Field, who also
was treated to a helicopter
ride for the aerial shot,
provided the pictures. Thank
you to Dave Brown, the
AMA president, for
attending this event. Also
attending were state senator
Susan Tucker, and James
Miceli, a member of the
House of Representatives for
the Commonwealth of
Massachusetts.
Elections: Effective January
1, 2005, you will have a new
District Vice President.
This will be my last
column so thank you to all of
the people who voted for me
and thanks to all of the
district officers who have
donated their time and talent
throughout the years.
Cheers!
The food is being prepared.
A photo display shows the club’s history.
Part of the day’s event was awarding the
Gold Leader Club Award to the 459th R/C
Squadron.
