District III
Bob Brown, District III Vice President; [email protected]
Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia
District III has a new Associate Vice
President (AVP)! Jeff Black of New
Oxford, Pennsylvania, has volunteered to be
of assistance to clubs in south-central
Pennsylvania. The following is a brief
introduction providing some insight into
Jeff’s background.
“I have been flying model airplanes for
35 years. I started in Control Line flying
and have competed in Scale, Rat Racing
and Combat
events. At age 13, I
started flying
radio-controlled
airplanes and I
have been doing it
ever since. I
competed at
several Nats in
fun-fly events
where I finished in
the top 5 for the
past several years.
“I have been
president and vice president of a Special
Interest Group (SIG) called the National
Competition Fun Fly Association (NCFFA)
and I currently hold the vice president
position. I’m also the current president for
the Blue & Gray Miniature Aircraft
Squadron, which I’ve held for 10 years and
counting. I am a current CD for the AMA
and have been for five years.
“I’m a flight instructor for our club and
have worked with the youth to help promote
model aviation. I organize mall shows,
flying demos, fly-ins, and air shows, to all
of which the public is invited.
“I have designed fun-fly models, sold
several kits, and hold classes in model plane
building. I have given presentations on
model flying to local churches and the
Hanover Lions Club.
“I would like to thank you for the
opportunity to serve as AVP of District III
for AMA.”
Please check the column header for
information about how to contact Jeff.
Distrct III’s new AVP,
Jeff Black, of New
Oxford, Pennsylvania.
Fédération Aéronautique Internationale’s Aeromodeling Commission (FAI/CIAM). The
modelers of the Academy owe this gentleman a great deal of gratitude for his 32 years of
respected leadership.
Laird is also an outstanding doctor, known throughout the world as a leader in the study of
genetics. Fortunately, he will continue to provide his wisdom and leadership to some of the
various FAI activities. Thank you, Laird!
Johnstown RC Club: The Johnstown RC Club in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, began its 46th
year of AMA affiliation with its annual Indoor Fly-In, which the club has held for the last
seven years. Several members belong to a local church,
which each January opens its doors for this special event.
Club members bring their gliders, helicopters, and nearly
anything that can fly indoors, and have a ball! They begin
by having a wonderful meal prepared and served by the
wives, followed by a short regular club meeting, and then
they push back the tables and fly.
They had 28 members attend, plus a number of guests.
There were no accidents this year; however, the basketball
net did catch one airplane by surprise!
The club recently launched its own Web site. Webmaster
Roger Luther reported that the site has been visited by
people from across the country and the world in the year
since it has been up and running. The Web site reports on
club activities, special events, and meeting information, in
addition to many pictures from the field!
Check it out at www.johnstownrc.org.
