OUR INTREPID REPORTER, Les
Nessman, reporting from the Cincinnati
Silent Flyers, filed this story.
“Turkeys can fly—the non-winged
variety that is!
“On a blustery November 26, the
Cincinnati Silent Flyers held its annual
Turkey Fly. The event was started as a way
to get out and enjoy the fresh air, plus burn
off some of that excess poundage from the
previous (Thanksgiving) day.
Ed Smith and club president Steve
Harness (head turkey?) are keeping the
pilots fed.
“While others—mainly the wives—
sought the serenity and warmth of the local
malls, these spirited RC pilots took the
opportunity to get in some stick time and
camaraderie with fellow pilots.

Bryan Dooley is preparing to launch his EStarter.
“It was a gray, overcast day with the
wind gusting 5-10 mph. The temperatures
were in the low 30s, but that didn’t stop
these resolute pilots!
“Although the wind and temperature
presented challenges, a great time was had
by all, and there were only a few minor notso-
perfect landings, which were dubiously
credited to the wind gusts!”

The Black Sheep Squadron of Northeast
Pennsylvania held its sixth annual Open
House and Fun-Fly for the Valley Santa.
The event featured a variety of aircraft
demonstrations, a chicken barbecue, raffles,
and buddy-box spectator flying.
The proceeds benefit needy children at
Christmas. Further information can be
viewed at the club’s Web site:

Thanks to Steve Kurimchak for the
pictures and information.
Twenty-three pilots from seven clubs
supported the Black Sheep Santa Fly.
Bill Jones, the club’s vice president, has
been coordinating the event for six years.
A segment of the Delaware Valley
Federation of Model Airplane Clubs spent a
portion of last year working with the
Abington Friends School Summer
Enrichment Program. The Scale Old-Timer
Society provided the opportunity for the kids
to witness the dedication, patience, and
precision required for aeromodeling.
The students were thrilled to watch their
own airplanes in flight and experience a
feeling of accomplishment and pride.
