DEAR DISTRICT V MEMBERS: For my
first report for Model Aviation, I will outline
some changes that I hope will be for the
good of District V.
Dick Tonan called me and said he would
be happy to be the RC Event Coordinator for
Florida. He is presently RC Event
Coordinator for Tennessee, Mississippi,
Alabama, South Carolina, Georgia, and
Puerto Rico. Dick’s mailing address is 639
Knollwood Dr., Lavergne TN 34491. His
telephone number is (615) 793-2204 and his
E-mail address is [email protected].
I will be contacting the other District V
staff members for permission to use their
telephone numbers and E-mail addresses.
That should make it easier for the CDs when
questions about upcoming events need
answered. Please remember that your event
notices should be submitted 90 days (or
three months) before the month you want it
to appear in the magazine.
District V Web page: I want to make some
changes to the Web page after I have had a
chance to talk to Bryan Cupps.
I would like to have all of the chartered
clubs listed with addresses and zip codes.
This will help members quickly find the
proper contact person and club.
It might be good to see District V events
listed on our Web page after Dick receives
and approves of them. This way everyone
will know what is scheduled for each month
and the location of events in their state.
Remember, your sanction papers are not
sent to you as soon as you send them in for
approval. It depends on the date of your
sanction as to when you will receive your
papers. If your event is scheduled down the
road a few months, you will receive the
sanction papers closer to its date.
You know we all have a favorite airplane
we’ve built with a picture of ourselves
beside it. I would like to put those pictures
on our Web page.
Please send your favorite picture through
the U.S. Postal Service (no digital pictures)
to the associate vice president (AVP) in your
state. They can submit them all to me in one
package and they can be posted on the Web
page. Do not write on the back of the
picture. Use a separate sheet of paper or
card, print your name, address, telephone
number, and E-mail address, the name of the
airplane, color, and year it was built.
Pictures will not be returned.
Club patches or logos: I would love it if
each club in the district would donate one
patch or logo to the District V Vice
President. I want to make up a display board
with all of the patches on it. There will be
one board for each state.
When they are completed, I can bring
them to events and you can see all the
different club patches in District V. Please
send the patches to my address.
I am happy to announce that those associate
vice presidents I have called have agreed to
stay on. Soon I will have contacted them all
and I will discuss my plans for the future of
District V with them.
If you have any questions regarding
District V, remember you can always call or
E-mail me. Alternatively, an associate vice
president in your state may be able to help.
November is the election month for officers.
Please remember not to send in your ballot
with your membership card; the ballot goes
to a different address. Mail in your ballot as
soon as you get it and make your vote count
for the person you want to win.
Now, let’s get down to club business. This
month I received many, many calls of
condolences for Jim McNeill’s passing.
People offered me their assistance and I
really appreciate their kindnesses. Please
remember, this is your District V and it can
only be what we each contribute.
Sherman Arculis sent in the following
pictures of the Rocket City Radio
Controllers and one of the last events Jim
McNeill attended.
Tony Coberly, club president; Andy Smith,
vice president; Mary Long, newsletter
editor and field chairman; Sherwin
Arculis, AVP; Jim Minninger, treasurer;
Glenda Trowbridge; and Chuck Facemire.
This shows some of the club members
with Jim McNeill (far right).
Holding the Club of the Month flag are
Tony Coberly, Andy Smith, Mary Long,
and Sherwin Arculis.
This shows club members being
congratulated by Jim McNeill after he
presented the Club of the Month flag.
Lucy McNeill is in the foreground taking
notes.
