Vernon Coop’s clipped-wing model took
roughly six months to build.
THE FOLLOWING describes a model
that will be flown under the Experimental
Aircraft rules of the AMA. Many will only
dream about building a venture like this.
Built by Vernon Coop of Joliet, Illinois,
this is quite a project.
The specifications of the Taylorcraft
Model B clipped-wing model are listed
below.
•Scale: 49%
•Span: 170 inches
•Length: 130 inches
•Height: 35 inches
•Wing area: 4,100 square inches
•Engine: 3W-150.
Construction materials for the aircraft
are listed below.
•Fuselage: 1/2 x 3/4 pine, all joints fitted
and screwed or doweled
•Wing: balsa ribs, pine D tube spars,
balsa sheeting
•Landing gear: fixed divided type with
spring shock suspension
•Cowl: aluminum and fiberglass with
hinged doors on both sides
•Covering and paint: Stits products.
The airplane took six months to build
and much of the material used came from
The Home Depot.
