I’M WRITING THIS after attending the
Weak Signals’ Toledo Expo, which for me
is the opening of another flying season,
although from a look at the weather forecast
you wouldn’t know it. But one must be
positive about such things.
From what I saw at the Expo, there have
been some giant steps in what was offered
from the vendors in all the venues in areas
such as batteries and airplanes for the
electric crowd, ARFs, and ARCs for the
fixed-wing folks. And there were all kinds
of gidgets and gadgets for everyone.
I would say attendance was up from last
year. Some of the vendors I spoke to also
agreed and had good sales to prove it. In fact
some said there did not appear to be a
downside to the economy regarding our
hobby.
Of course, it’s always good to see old
friends that I have met over the past years.
Don Held sent in this report from the Alpine
Leisure Pilots Society (A.L.P.S.) of Gaylord
Michigan. As the name implies, the club
gets together to have a club fun-fly and try
their skills at a leisurely contest with the
winners receiving awards.
Don and his brother Dick are the sons of
a former AMA President Kenneth Held,
1950-1951.

Jim Papst was the winner of a pheasant hunt,
donated by wild wings.
The fun-fly winners (L-R) were Al Ferguson,
Don Held, Jim Robb, and CD Dick Held.
Charles Reich, secretary of the Milwaukee
Area Radio Krontrol Society sent these
pictures from some of the activities in which
the club is involved, starting with the club’s
annual fun-fly in June and getting involved
with a charity fun-fly held by the Astro
Wings club, and ending with a fall float-fly.

It’s not rocket science; in fact it’s rather
easy.
Until next time, take a youngster to the
flying field.
Fly safely and have fun. Safety is no
accident. C.A.V.U.
