THE FINANCIAL REPORT is not back
from the auditor; therefore, you are not
bothered by numbers this month.
I am up and around now and it feels good. I
was able to attend the banquet AMA held for
Dave Brown in Muncie, Indiana.
The event was attended by approximately
100 people. Bob Underwood did his usual
masterful job of handling the program. Dave
Brown deserved all the praise he received.
You are aware that we have several new
faces at AMA. Our new president, Dave
Mathewson, has seven years of experience
on the Executive Council. Executive
Director Jim Cherry has more than 1.5 years
of experience at AMA plus years of
experience in that position at other
organizations beforehand. Our new
comptroller, Diana Garza, is well qualified
for her job.
This strength, supported by many others
at AMA, should provide for new programs
and much growth during the next three
years.
In my recent trip to the hospital I learned
the difference between medical and surgical.
You’re “medical” if you were sick before
you came to the hospital; you’re “surgical” if
they made you sick after you got there.
A-B-C Always Be Courteous. Until later.

Each year, the Academy of Model Aeronautics awards
Charles Hampson Grant Scholarships to deserving high-school
seniors who will be pursuing a continuing academic program at
an accredited college or university.
In 2007, 14 applications were received and processed by the
four-person selection committee and roughly $46,000 was
distributed in various amounts based on AMA modeling
activities, scholastic achievement, and citizenship achievement.
To be eligible for a scholarship, the applicant must:
1) Have been an AMA member for the last full 36 consecutive
months prior to the April 30 application deadline
2) Graduate from high school in the year in which the award is
to be granted
3) Have been accepted by a college or university offering a
certificate or degree program
The Charles H. Grant Scholarship Program contains other
grants which involve specific factors for determining the award.
The Toledo Weak Signals Scholarship is awarded to the top
recipient of the AMA/Charles H. Grant Scholarship. The Sig
Memorial Scholarship is awarded based on a combination of
modeling achievement and financial need.
The Telford Scholarship is based on participation in
competition activity in the AMA and FAI classifications listed in
the application packet.
Scholarship information and applications or information
regarding donations to the programs can be obtained by calling
AMA Headquarters at (765) 287-1256, ext. 516, or by E-mailing
[email protected] or [email protected].
Applications are also available on the AMA Web site under
Education at www.modelaircraft.org/education.aspx.
The application deadline is April 30, 2008.
