Aero Mail - 2010/05

Edition: Model Aviation - 2010/05
Page Numbers: 7, 113

Gene Smith’s March 2010 FF sport column lists
the dates of the AMA Indoor Nats as June 2-6. The
event will actually take place from Wednesday
May 26 to Sunday May 30.
Our apologies for the error.

Thanks for publishing the article
[“Skymasters and Southeastern Michigan
Modelers Help Communities,” March 2010 “In
the Air,” page 12].
An error crept into the section on the Honor
Flight. This was Chris Hass’s first Honor Flight but the 28th
mission from Detroit.

A Satisfied Author
I was very, very surprised yesterday when a friend called to congratulate me on
the ShyFox article [in the March MA]. I assumed it had been “non-selected” for
publication!
After getting over the shock, and struggling through the rest of the day at work, I
rushed home to see if my copy had come in the mail. The USPS came through so I
settled in to see how it came out.
I was pleased that you managed to work with the plans; I had assumed that they
would have to be inked to make them legible, but they held up pretty well after
reduction. Don’t know how you did that!
I am old-school and like the look of hand drawn plans and especially plans with
lots of details to study. Modelers candy! The editing to condense the text was
smooth and retained the flavor well.
The build photos came out fairly well but I could have done better on the
composition. Next time I will take more pictures so there are more to choose from.
And yes, I need to figure out how to capture a racing plane in flight …
Thank you for the excellent presentation of the materials. I have already received
messages from modelers who expressed interest in various features illustrated and in
building the actual plane. This is a good way to keep control line racing alive.

Manufacturer Misrepresentation?
I would like to comment on the article: “Plane Talk: Easytiger Models Stealth
EDF Fleet” that is published in the March 2010 issue. In the article it is stated
several times that Easytiger Models is the manufacturer of these jets. I would like to
dispute this and find it misleading to readers.
Easytiger Models has a history of claiming that they manufacture numerous edf
jets. The three that were featured in the Plane Talk issue are actually made by
Nicesky Models (F-35) http://www.nicesky.net/en/pro.asp and Lanxiang Models
(Sr-71 and F-117) http://www.lxhm.us/en/products.asp.
I believe that Easytiger Models misleads publishers and customers alike into
thinking that they do things in this industry to advance their company. I feel that this
is misleading and not fair to the consumer. In fact their entire Tigerline of products
are items that are manufactured by others and Easytiger Models just puts their own
name on them.
Now let me clarify, I do not have a problem with someone submitting a product
to have an article or write up done on it. They should get the credit for submitting
the products for review. But they should not claim something that is not correct.
If they didn’t manufacture it, then they shouldn’t claim they did. They have also
been banned from several chat sites due to their misleading statements.
I do not find fault with Model Aviation and will continue to advertise in Model
Aviation. You are reporting what you were led to believe was accurate information.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Great Plans Service
I would like to compliment Greg [Prater]
in [AMA’s] Plan Services for going beyond
the normal effort to ensure that I had a
“complete” scan of a plan I had ordered, the
Blohm und Voss Bv141. A truly unique plane
if you hadn’t seen one.
I had received the plan I had ordered on
02-11-2010 almost before the ink had dried
on the shipping label and was somewhat
dismayed that sheet 1 was missing the
leftmost portion of the drawing. To that end, I
called your Plans Service and talked with
Greg, he said he would look into it in the
morning (I called just before quitting time, so
no problem) and see what was amiss.
True to his word, he checked the master,
saw there was a problem between the master
and what was available, re-scanned the
master, correctly oriented it with Photo Shop
and put it in the mail today; truly an effort
way past the normal duties.
I would appreciate it if you would pass
along my thanks for “going the extra mile”.

Education Via Model Aviation
I read in “Model Aviation” about your
[Joe Beshar’s] work with schools to teach
them the educational aspects of RC models. I
have a center for students who have learning
problems. My people are extremely bright but
do not learn the same way as the masses.
One of my students became very
interested in RC planes in November of last
year. He is homeschooled and we worked
together on a simulator and he has loved
learning to fly. I could see the great education
merits to this hobby.
I was working with several things in
physics, math and history (the 12 flying Aces
of WWI-Colonel Springs was from Ft. Mill)
and was thrilled you had been doing this with
students. Do you have any handouts or
resources you would share with me? I would
greatly appreciate it.
Everyone who does RC planes have been
so wonderful to this student that all of you
should be so proud of all the people who
share this love of RC planes. Thank you in
advance for your time.
Post Scriptum: “Model Aviation” is a
great magazine to encourage young males to
read. MA
