New Digital Resources for 2015

In 1935, a small group of model aviation pilots met in a Detroit hotel lobby to create an organization of and for aeromodelers. Their vision was to build a unified voice for the hobby, sport, and educational pursuit of model aeronautics. Eighty years later, the Academy of Model Aeronautics has grown into the world’s largest aeromodeling organization—more than 170,000 members strong.

It is an exciting time at the AMA. More than ever, we are aggressively advocating for our members’ rights, enhancing benefits by offering perks such as Model Aviation Digital, and working with hundreds of clubs across the country to protect and preserve flying sites.

Two years ago we started the groundwork to launch an ambitious new member benefit. The goal of the project was to offer a completely revised online experience and to provide members with access to their profiles and various AMA resources. We conducted multiple surveys, spoke with similar organizations, and leaned on the advice of experts in the field.

We are excited to announce that after thousands of hours of work and countless pots of coffee, the AMA will launch this new membership perk with the 2015 membership year. Members will be able to navigate a cleaner, sleeker website and have the tools to easily manage their profiles.

Member Dashboard

When logging into the new site, AMA members will have a centralized hub called the Member Dashboard. We consider this one of the most significant and valuable features of the project. It allows members to:

  • Track upcoming events
  • Submit support requests (tickets) to AMA staff
  • Modify magazine subscriptions
  • Keep in touch with AMA clubs
  • Easily update personal information

If a member loses their AMA card or forgets to bring it to the flying field—no problem. Simply pull up a copy of your AMA card in the dashboard and show the card on your smartphone to a CD at the field, or print an extra copy.

Search and Mobile Features

The new site also makes it easier to search for area clubs, hobby shops, and events. A variety of tools and search filters are available to refine results. If someone is traveling, the event search feature can automatically recognize a user’s location and present results in a mobile-friendly format.

AMA is excited about this new benefit and wants to offer members a sneak peek. As we approach the launch date we’ll reveal more features. Stay tuned!
