AMA News - 2007/06
By the time you read this, the flying season will be in full swing here in the Southeast. It will also be time for our District Jamborees. I hope you noticed the advertisement in the magazine concerning our four Jamborees scattered throughout the district. Each event is designed as a celebration of modeling. All types of models will be flown and/or displayed.
District Jamborees
All District V AMA members are invited to attend and bring their models. The clubs are working to provide a flying venue for:
- Free Flight
- Control Line
- Radio Control
Everything from Peanut Scale to Giant Scale and Turbine aircraft are invited. There will be a free t-shirt for every AMA District V member who attends the event — even if you don't fly. This fly-in is one way, as AMA District V vice president, that I can give back to local clubs and members. It will be a great way to get together and enjoy the day at the flying field. You can find more information about each event on the host clubs' websites.
Model Aviation Hall of Fame Award
Nick Ziroli presented the Model Aviation Hall of Fame Award to Jerry Smith of Acworth, Georgia, at the Wings Over Venice event in Florida on February 17. Jerry is a lifetime modeler who spent many years working for RC Modeler magazine, the International Miniature Aircraft Association's publication High Flight, and Lanier RC. He is most noted for the Lanier Stinger design, which remains a popular airplane. Congratulations to Jerry for this achievement!
Vintage R/C Society — Hal de Bolt Reunion
I received a note from District V member Lyman Slack about the Vintage Radio Control Society's 2007 Hal de Bolt Reunion.
"The annual Vintage R/C Society (www.vintagercsociety.org) held its 2007 Hal de Bolt Reunion in early March near Brooksville, Florida.
"The designated Model of the Year was the 1968 Trainer Master by Lou Andrews. The photo shows the collection of Trainer Masters presented and their builders."
