Batavia R/C Flying Club

The Batavia R/C Flying Club is a smaller club by District II standards but is very active.

Joe Palmer, the president in 2009, oversaw the club’s two primary fundraising projects. The members held:

  • a flea market in November
  • a fun-fly on June 7–8

The club’s field is a full-scale grass runway that provides an excellent place to fly. Like most of the district’s clubs, it is full of really nice people who work hard to raise the revenue needed to maintain and grow their organization.

Dick Smith will lead this group as president in 2010. Thanks for stepping up, Dick!

Jet Pilots Organization (JPO) Representative

Longtime Jet Pilots Organization (JPO) District II representative Art Aro has decided to step down after 20 years representing District II’s jet pilots in the organization. JPO is an AMA Special Interest Group (SIG), and Art did a great job in this capacity. He will be missed.

Len McIntosh of Freeport, New York, who served as a JPO associate vice president, will assume the duties of the District II JPO representative. Welcome and good luck, Len! Art, thank you for two decades of volunteer service.

Membership Contest

Anthony Desimone of Shamong, New Jersey, and a member of the Crosswinds RC Club, was one of the runner-up winners in the 2009 AMA membership contest, signing five new members. For his efforts, Anthony received a $100 AMA Cloud 9 Museum Store gift certificate. Congratulations, Anthony, and thanks from everyone at AMA for your efforts!

Reminders

Don’t forget that AMA Hall of Fame, Flying Site Grants, and Take Off and Grow (TAG) application deadlines start in February, so get those applications in.

Until next month, Keep ’em Three in the Green!
