Pegasus RC Flying Club — Langhorne, PA
The Pegasus RC Flying Club of Langhorne, Pennsylvania, held its closing-day picnic and fun-fly. Members renamed and dedicated their field to longtime member John Michael Smith, who suddenly passed away earlier this year.
John was considered an expert at repairing crashed models and finding solutions to difficult problems. He was also instrumental in obtaining Pegasus’s current field inside Core Creek Park in Langhorne. John will be missed, but the flying will continue at the John Michael Smith Memorial Airfield.

- The Air National Guard brought a miniature C-130 that carried 10 kids and adults for a tour down the taxiway, providing fun for all ages.
- The Pilot Club at the airport provided a great breakfast.
- Mike Eden and Associate Vice President David Ellis offered an impressive pylon demonstration.
- Donations and results:
- The landing fee was a new, unwrapped toy; more than 180 toys were received.
- With 50/50 drawings and an airplane raffle, the club donated $780 and the toys to the family support group for our troops’ children.
Thanks are extended to our troops and their families for all they do for our freedom, and to the clubs for doing their part for the kids.
Blue and Gray Chili Fly-In — Gettysburg, PA
The Blue and Gray Chili Fly-In was held recently in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Pilots came from across Pennsylvania and Virginia. There were 34 registered pilots and more than 100 airplanes for the crowd to admire and watch fly.
Highlights:
- Ronnie London from Dubois wowed the crowd with his 3-D style helicopter flying.
- Chris Fink from the Harrisburg area put on a very impressive demonstration with his 50% Christen Eagle biplane.
- There was a lot of flying all day long; only a few airplanes ended up in the cornfield, suffering minor damage.
Kevin Mickley did a great job ensuring everyone followed club and AMA safety rules. Ray Black ran the radio impound first-rate, and CD Jeff Black made sure things ran smoothly so everyone had fun.
