They have a beautiful field with wide open space. Club president Tommy Beard kept things in order assisted by Jerry Holt, vice president George Fryer, Mike Starling, Robert McGhee, and club secretary/treasurer Ray Willard. The event was run by Contest Director (CD) Raymond Depere. For this early spring event, there were 57 registered pilots and 118 airplanes. Jerry Holt furnished the pictures. Tommy Beard (on table) briefs pilots. Lisa Weber, who recently soloed, handled the registration. Right side of the flightline. The Tidewater Radio Control Club held its Mid-Atlantic Jet Rally at NALF Fentress, Chesapeake VA, on May 25 and 26, 2002. CD Frank Rega indicated that 29 pilots and 45 airplanes had registered by Saturday evening, and probably more on Sunday. Some came from as far as Florida and Vermont, with others from New York, Connecticut, North Carolina, New Jersey, Maryland, and Virginia. Steve Moulton, Associate Vice President (AVP), and I attended and enjoyed the flying, the quality of the models, and meeting the modelers. The rally was for both ducted fans and turbines and I was surprised to see turbines as the majority. All were exceptional models with expert craftsmanship. Ron Stahl of Reistertown MD with his Kangaroo with RAM 750. Bob Violett's BVM F-4 Phantom boasting a Blue Angels scheme. District IV Vice President Bliss Teague and David Jones, District IV IMAA director, discuss modeling. George McLean and BVM Maverick with 91 BVM, Long Island NY. Dave Ribbe and BVM F-16 with Sophia 850, from Marlton NJ. In view of the recent tragedy in Arizona, I want to ask all clubs to secure a 911 address and GPS location and post it in a conspicuous place at the field. Because of the remote location, it was hard for emergency personnel to locate the flying field following the accident in Arizona. Something like this will hopefully never happen again but just in case, be prepared. An even better way would be to inform the emergency crews of your location and supply them with directions. The new rule book with a green cover, Competition Regulations 2002-2005. is out. If you need one, call AMA at (765) 287-1256, ext. 234. Have you bought your AMA Walk of Fame brick yet? Have fun and teach a kid to fly safely.
