THE 28TH ANNUAL US Scale Masters
Championships (USSMA) was hosted by the
Hemet Model Masters (HMM) October 11-
14, 2007, in Hemet, California.
Located 75 miles east of Los Angeles in
Southern California’s Inland Empire, Hemet
is a progressive township with a population
of nearly 70,000 residents, many of whom
are retirees attracted to Hemet’s moderate
climate and friendly community.
The city rolled out the red carpet for the
US Scale Masters Championships and
provided many of the logistical amenities
that contributed to the event’s success. Vice
Mayor Lori VanArsdale officiated at the
opening ceremonies and welcomed the
attendees at the USSMA annual banquet
Saturday night.
The Hemet Model Masters were
recognized at the banquet for attaining
AMA Gold Leader Club status. The plaque
was presented to club president Jason Turner
by AMA District X Vice President Rich
Hanson.
Our thanks go to the Hemet Model
Masters for hosting this superb event and
our congratulations go out to all the
participants. The competition results and
additional pictures of the event can be found
on the Scale Masters Association’s Web site
at www.scalemasters.org.

Outgoing USSMA National Chairman Earl
Aune and his wife Josie were presented the
Harris Lee Lifetime Achievement Award for
their service to the US Scale Masters
Association. Earl took over the reigns of the
USSMA with the passing of the Scale
Masters founder Harris Lee in 1998.
A cadre of dedicated judges patiently
examined each entry in the Scale Masters
Championships. Sam Weiss, 14, from
Sacramento CA gives the judges a frontal
view of his Yak-9 during Thursday’s static
scale judging. Sam finished seventh in the
Open class.
The impeccable conformity to scale of these
aircraft is revealed in the cockpit detail in
Oscar Weingart’s 1/3-scale Ercoupe. Oscar
placed fourth in Team Scale with his pilot
Carl Lindou.
Jason Turner, club president, addressed the
attendees at the Saturday night banquet and
heralded the close working relationship
between the local club and the USSMA
Chairman Bill Hart and Director of
Administration Carolyn Van Herk.
