It has been a busy spring already! The annual Toledo Show was well attended, with a lot of buzz about new spread-spectrum products being introduced. Exhibitors included:
- Great Planes / Hobbico showing Futaba FASST spread-spectrum systems
- Horizon displaying Spektrum modules and the new JR12 system
- Xtreme Power Systems featuring the company’s SS modules and receivers for Futaba and JR transmitters
It should be a fun summer when these products hit the market.

The first annual Lexington Aircraft Radio Kontrol Society (LARKS) Spring Fly-In was held Saturday, March 24, at the club field near Leesville, South Carolina. The weather was beautiful, thanks to new club president Marlin Martoi. There were 36 pilots and more than 40 helicopters present.
The club recently secured a 10-year lease from the landowner for its site and has undertaken numerous improvement projects, including:
- New shelters
- Plumbing
- New tables and benches
- Electricity available at the field for the first time
The LARKS invited other clubs in the area to attend; pilots from North Carolina and Georgia came. The noon drawing included goodies from hobby shops, including Lexington Hobby (Lexington, SC) and Ray’s Hobbies (Statesboro, GA). Several club members and the Piggly Wiggly grocery store contributed food and drinks.
The club held drawings for kids and adults. Four laptops were set up to run flight simulators for the Cub Scouts present. Robert Wells flew his Hughes 500 in and set it up on static display; he made a couple of low-level passes as he returned home.
This club has grown quite a bit in the last couple of years. If you get a chance, drop by 1800 Ben Franklin Rd., Leesville, SC 29070 and check it out.
