148 MODEL AVIATION
PAUL VERGER, the District V associate
vice president for Mississippi, sent me the
following report. Sounds as though it was
a great fly-in!
November the seventh was the date of
the Mississippi Coast RC Club’s Fly-In
(MCRCC), in Gulfport, Mississippi.
However, it was also the date of two other
events within driving distance of south
Alabama and south Mississippi.
It was poor planning. I hope we all do
better next time!
Jerry Gollott was the event director,
and he had everything in good order.
This is a Fly-What-You-Got event, so
there was a little of everything! We had
airplanes from park flyers up to Giant
Scale, and everything in between. There
were helicopters, too! It’s always fun to
have a lot of variety.
Nathan Rische handled the registration.
He also took pictures for me. Thank you
very much.
Dickie Ober sold raffle tickets. I’d like
to say he did a great job, because he sold
me a winner! The club raffled off $300
worth of $20 gift certificates good at
Orange Grove Hobbies.
The cooking was done by club chef
Ron Johnson. Ron not only did the cooking
on Saturday, he also cooked on Friday for
the workers, and Sunday for the monthly
club meeting. It was all great!
The MCRCC has probably had larger
fly-ins in the recent past, but I don’t think
any were more fun than this one. Lots of
flying and everyone had a really good
time.
There will probably be another fly-in
scheduled for April or May. See you there!
—Paul Verger
I am currently on the hunt for a few
associate vice presidents (AVPs) to serve
the district. At this point, I don’t have any
representation in Alabama, and would like
to pick up an AVP in central/north Georgia
and in west Tennessee.
I use my AVPs to represent the AMA to
the local clubs and members. They are
asked to travel within 100 miles of their
home and attend meetings, events, and
programs put on by the area clubs.
These AVPs have been given
information to help the clubs better access
the AMA programs and to share new
information and news about AMA and
model aviation.
If you would be interested in serving,
please contact me via e-mail at tony@ama
