AMA News: District V-2012/11
Hello District V!
We are getting to the end of another year and, for most of us, it has been good flying with little hurricane activity. Some of our modelers in the Florida Panhandle, Mississippi, and Alabama experienced foul weather associated with Hurricane Isaac and a tropical storm that scared all of us, but did not cause extensive damage.
CL Flying & November Race
I would like to discuss CL flying. Although it is not a dominant part of aeromodeling today, it is, for most of us, where we got started.
This November I will congregate with many like-minded individuals to sponsor a race in Starke, Florida. The event, hosted by the Jacksonville Flying Rebels, is proving to be a huge, fun occasion and, for those of you who have never been to a CL racing event, I urge you to come out. I will be there, so if you have any questions, come on out—have lunch with me, watch some racing, and make a weekend of it. Hope to see you there!

Club Visits
I have been visiting many of you—some announced, some unannounced—when I am in the area. I want to thank all of you in District V for your hospitality, attention, excellent club running, and for representing this hobby.
Safety
I do ask you, however, to keep a tight ship when it comes to safety issues. I have fielded many calls about safety and some are alarming. If you see or have in your club anyone being lackadaisical about safety, bring them to a board meeting and request an explanation for their actions. Don't turn a blind eye; it can cost you your field. We lost a field this year because of a safety violation—yes, one violation—and the field closed. It's sad but true. Keep an eye open!
Upcoming Aerotow Event
We are having a large aerotow event March 15–17, 2013, at the Indian River Kontrol Society club field in Cocoa, Florida. This is the second annual Spacecoast Aero Tow and it will be a great one. Get a sailplane or a tug ready for this event! More information is at www.irks.org.
Be in touch soon, Jose.
