comHi, gang!By the time you read this, December 21, 2012, will have come and gone, the planetary alignment did not cause the end of the world, and we are still burdened by the vagaries of everyday life. What do we do?We continue to promote model aviation by doing what we have always done: building and flying model airplanes! This new year, go out and teach someone how to enjoy model aviation the way we all do. Get the word out. Attend one more event than what you did last year. Get that project off of the board or that ARF flying, and introduce someone who has never enjoyed this hobby to it! I can help. Let me know how you are doing!I want to thank everyone who has dropped a line, given me constructive criticism, helped me run an event, traveled to events with me, fed me, listened to my boring stories, and helped me enjoy the hobby that, for me, is a way of life. Some of the best rewards of being a district vice president are the friendships that are made and cultivated through model aviation. Thank you!District V has an amazing amount of activities going on throughout the year and it is impossible to attend them all. Your associate vice presidents (AVPs) are there for that. Say hi, encourage them, and thank them when you see them. They do the AMA’s work and represent you. I thank every AVP in the AMA, not just District V. They are getting out there and getting the job done! This past November, we had a CL race event we called The Rule Bender. The event was held at Paradise Field in Ocklawaha, Florida. The owners of the field, H. David and Danette Wallick, were wonderful hosts and we had a great time. There were entrants from Cuba, Kiev, Russia, England, California, Minnesota, and good ol’ Florida. The flying was fast and furious. The competition was good, the food was excellent, and the friendships made and rekindled were the frosting on the cake. If you fly CL and you’re in Florida, look up Paradise Field and bring an airplane! Thanks to all the international travelers who joined AMA in making this event possible!
