AMA News District V - 2013/04

I would like to congratulate M. Don Wise for being named the new AVP in South Carolina. He has a great area to work in and is very qualified to represent the AMA as an AVP. Thanks for coming on board, Don!
North Florida AVP, Andy Griffith, invited me to the Radio Control Club of Jacksonville (JAX RC) Member Appreciation Day this past January. This was the perfect opportunity for me to introduce my neighbor, Micah Brugonone, to model aviation. I showed him full-size aviation, and the show at JAX RC set the hook! Micah is now an AMA member and building his first model!
The JAX crew was hospitable and very organized. The events that I attend give me a pulse of what is going on in modeling throughout the district. This event was well attended, well organized, the grounds were immaculate, and the membership camaraderie was excellent. The barbecue was out of this world, and as Andy had told me, the food alone was worth attending the event.

The tables were full of great barbecue and folks enjoying it!

The smiles tell it all!

The AMA District V Helifest, held at Prosser Field in Statesboro, Georgia, will take place April 11-14. This is an AMA-sponsored, full-blown, heli-only event. The field is unequalled in layout, space, and great accommodations for campers, motorhomes, and day fliers. I hope to see you there!
Joe Nall, the Southeastern Model Show, the Southeast Electric Flight Festival, and Helifest are all in the spring so make plans early!
