YATES CITY, ILLINOIS: On a bright, sunny day, a large group of RC fliers gathered to again honor and celebrate the life of a fallen comrade: Ralph Andrae, founder of Wing Manufacturing. The main event of the fly-in was not only to remember Ralph, but also to present Dolores "Dolly" Andrae, Ralph's widow, with a plaque inducting Ralph into the Model Aviation Hall of Fame.
Although it has been nearly nine years since he passed, Ralph's legacy continues on in the thoughts and minds of those who knew him.
The fly-in, dubbed "Dolly's Fly Day" and cookout, was organized by Bob Snyder and Sid Davis and held at a private, full-scale airport known as Tri-County Airport located close to Yates City. By renting a hangar, Bob, Sid, and others are able to use the airstrip as an RC flying site.
All who attended had a great time. The weather was perfect for RC flying, and the food that followed in the hangar topped off the day.
