Blackhawk R/C Pilots E-Xpo (University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls)
For the past nine years, the Blackhawk R/C Pilots, AMA chartered club 792, have sponsored E-Xpo, an indoor electric fly-in at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.
Each year the audience and number of pilots attending has grown. More than 80 pilots came from:
- Wisconsin
- Nebraska
- Minnesota
- Illinois
- Missouri
Spectators numbered in the hundreds.
The UNI Dome is an indoor football stadium capable of holding 17,000 spectators. The venue can accommodate four disciplines at one time:
- Helicopters (one end zone)
- Rubber-powered free flight (FF) (other end zone)
- 3-D flying (center)
- Slower circular-pattern flying (center)
All of this activity without frequency problems is due to the newer technology of 2.4 GHz. Our hobby has come a long way.
The Blackhawk R/C Pilots have already scheduled the 2010 fly-in for February 20–21. Thanks to Neal Leeper for the report and pictures.
Radio Control Club of Detroit (RCCD) — Mall Show (Roseville, Michigan)
Larry Boulet of the Radio Control Club of Detroit (RCCD) forwarded this report of the club’s recent mall show in Roseville, Michigan.
RCCD is one of the most active clubs involved in community activities throughout the year. The mall show is the kickoff of the season. The club is actively involved with various local youth organizations and holds youth day programs during the flying season.
The club also hosts charity flying events and continues to hold competitive events. RCCD is an example of what can be done with a little work and a dedicated membership.
Till next time, fly safely, have fun, and introduce a youngster to our hobby.
