December 31 is the end of the accounting season for AMA. The books are closed and will be forwarded to the auditor. While we do not yet have the final results, preliminary numbers indicate that it was a good year financially.
One reason it was a good year for us was the stock market. Because we have substantial funds invested in the market, we are affected negatively when it drops and positively when there are gains. Another indicator is that the checking account balance is $189,788.39 larger than it was on December 31, 2005.
At the beginning of each corporate year, there are business activities that need to be reviewed or invested in. Several committees will be evaluating our programs to determine if any should be terminated or new ones started. This is an ongoing process, but greater effort is exercised at the start of the year. There are some interesting projects currently under investigation.
The audit report will be available on the website as soon as it is completed. For those who do not use a computer—and I know there are a number of you—the report will be presented in this column.
