About the Designer
L. F. "Randy" Randolph left an incredibly rich heritage of model designs when he moved on to that big flying field in the sky a few years ago. Randy's mission was to design as many different-looking and easy-to-build RC sport designs as possible. Mission accomplished!
The Weekender
This time we are spotlighting Randy's Weekender, which has a wingspan of 47.5 inches and was originally designed to accept a .20 four-stroke engine. The model can be easily adapted to glow or electric power.
As with almost all of Randy's designs, the Weekender features a pleasant fuselage profile that is easy to build from sheet balsa. The wing's flat-bottom airfoil makes accurate assembly on a flat surface a snap. The tail feathers are built up from strip stock, resulting in a lightly loaded, low-wing model suitable for sport flying and rudimentary aerobatic training.
