IN COMPETITION, no matter what the
discipline, the equipment is constantly evolving
and changing. What is winning today will
probably not be winning in the near future, but
that doesn’t mean obsolete equipment is no
longer viable. A case in point in the
modeling world is the Jumpin’ Geo by
John Hunton and Bill Winter.
This high-performance RC design
was developed for use as a
competition fun-fly design and was
published in the November 1991
MA. The Jumpin’ Geo features true
geodesic wing construction. The ribs
interlock at extreme angles, producing an
“eggcrate” type of unit that is extremely rigid and
strong—a must for the demanding world of competition funfly.
Designed for use with a strong .45-size engine, this 3-pound
model features coupled flap and elevators like a CL Stunt
(Precision Aerobatics) aircraft. The result is a responsive yet
smooth-turning airplane that can be flown precisely through wild
gyrations.
Although this design probably isn’t the hot ticket for modern
fun-fly competition, it can be used as a great sport model that
will never get boring! It is also a prime candidate for conversion
to electric power.
