ReVolt!

It doesn't get any easier than this!

If you have been considering your first building project, the ReVolt! is perhaps the easiest project to construct that you will ever find. Its designer, Bob Kopski, wanted a test-bed airplane he could fit with several different motors so he could evaluate them in flight. His solution was this extremely simple-to-build model that is also an excellent RC trainer or sport model.

The ReVolt! features a flat-bottom, 12.5%‑section airfoil wing that is a snap to construct on a flat bench. This is not a tiny model—its wing spans 60 inches—so it will handle moderate winds well. In addition, it has a considerable tolerance for weight; the original could handle 50–100 ounces.

Key features:

  • Wing: flat-bottom, 12.5%‑section airfoil, 60-inch wingspan
  • Weight tolerance: 50–100 ounces
  • Controls: three-channel (elevator, rudder, and motor control)
  • Role: test-bed for motors, RC trainer, or sport model

Bob freely admits that this airplane was influenced by the great high-wing RC designs of the 1950s and 1960s, and, as they did, it possesses “hands-off” recovery capability in flight.

Plans for the ReVolt! are available through the AMA Plans Service. (See page 175 for details.) Order set 771 and start building!
