Bushfly

"Just for the fun of it"

That's why Charles Day designed and built his Bushfly: "Just for the fun of it." He set out to produce a model that was easy enough to fly as an RC trainer while possessing enough performance to double as an aerobatic trainer. His solution was a 61-inch wingspan airplane, which was the subject of a June 1997 MA construction article.

Essentially a shoulder-wing design, the Bushfly accepts .40–.46 two-stroke glow engines and features robust construction. The foam-reinforced, built-up balsa wing can be built accurately on a flat bench, and the sheet-balsa, box-configuration fuselage assembles quickly and is extremely strong.

Key features:

  • Shoulder-wing configuration for stable training characteristics.
  • Compatible with .40–.46 two-stroke glow engines.
  • Foam-reinforced, built-up balsa wing for accurate, repeatable construction.
  • Sheet-balsa, box-configuration fuselage: quick to assemble and very strong.
  • Extended landing-gear mount that spreads the aluminum Dural landing-gear legs to a 17-inch track for excellent ground handling.

If you are looking for a no-frills model that is easy to construct, strong, and reliable, the Bushfly may suit your needs. Plans set 832 is available for $14 from the AMA Plans Service. See page 191 for ordering details.

Now go have some fun! MA
