CONTROL LINE AEROBATICS will last Brodak dope finishing projects Its finally finished has fun consumes considerable time energy wanted carry experience through because really like Brodak dope highly left after decided go second coat first full coat noticed mixture wasnt flowing would have liked added thinner about 60/40 proportion used second coat Also minor blushing 50% humidity decided wait second coat amazing characteristic material quickly dries Just sure dry waited hour shot full second coat point eight ounces material remaining second coat showed some mild blush expected first coat decided try some retarder substitute other brands stick Brodak label Since no experience proceeded slowly goal using minimum amount retarder can set up condition underlying coats softened mixed retarder spray cup eight-ounce after approximately 1/2 ounce everything flowed well no blushing surface drying did slow much covering open bays initially quite taut Once have applied coat retarder leave model alone least overnight before handle retarder has very strong odor Wear appropriate mask using products can smell paint mask its effective Make sure airplane left well-ventilated area preferably several days until retarder has gassed off waited week wanted make sure surface hard sanded usual approach sanding first clear set use 600 grit wet Sikkens M-600 Wet-sanding point old tip master finisher Les McDonald Using Sikkens M-600 tip Jim Casale via Windy Urtnowski tape started noticed 600 wet dry paper cut very quickly through color just didnt have right feel put scientifically tried finer grit 1000 although worked well slow wanted get surface leveled matte no bright low spots Naturally working bottom after pondering what tried some 400 3MTM free cut gray stuff surprise conditions didnt want use retarder wanted lay some nice flow coats As sprayed noticed paint drying almost fast applied surprising really flowing material looked good surface looked nice glossy material went crystal-clear really made colors jump out sure dry waited hour between coats applied extra material edges coat prior flowing main coats second coat final coat went same about 8-10 ounces thinned material remaining noticed couple things between coats inspected airplane anything unusual could correct before final coat saw several spots raised edges missed sanding particular canopy area several dry transfers needed some dressing Another surprise was able take 400 sandpaper flatten raised edges very quickly dope powdered after hour almost too easy final coat went again no problemsno runs canopy did alter shape sanded lines smooth Overall sanding between first set detectable Let model gas-off least 24 hourspreferably longer handle airplane during time underlying coats could softened could ink dry transfers Expect surface lay down progressing during first week will able tell odor will diminish handle model until odor gone bottom line airplane saved 2/2 ounces total finish thats excellent refinish Ive flown model anything may subtle touch better wasperhaps because its lighter project certainly worth used following quantities dope gray blocking coat 2/3 pint white base coat 2/3 pint clear base coats 3-4 pints overcoat 2 pints total 6 pints Trim colors 4-ounce bottles sufficient Brodak thinner about 1 Y2 gallons recommend purchasing small amount retarder mix products
