Control Line Scale Bill Boss TAIL WHEEL STRUTSagain March 1986 column presented method making scalelike tail wheel struts effort illustrate difference between dressed-up tail wheel structure use dressing up strut Slide piece flexible tubing plastic rubber etc over strut cover bare wire between bottom fuselage top tail wheel strut fork Now take piece tubing material little longer twice length strut fork pierce about midpoint its length Now slide onto strut shown sketch No 3 inserting end wire strut through hole just pierced tubing complete half strut fork missing bend piece thick soft wire copper iron aluminum etc proper shape fork slip empty piece flexible tubing up other part strut wire Now reinstall tall wheel dummy portion fork still flexible enough allow Once again pierce dummy fork tubing can slipped over end wheels axle stiffens up fork bit stage dummy fork will stay put Now comes tricky part Carefully fill dummy-fork tubing CyA glue being very careful glue wheel axle hit assembly healthy shot Zip Kicker stand back chemical reaction stops using proper ventilation work area arent dummy strut should rather solidand careful enough wheel should still turn its axle Trim off excess tubing residue left CyA glue Zip Kicker strut now ready painting Richard said painted modified strut plastic enamel Steel color shown sketch two drag struts seen photo fabricated 1/16 aluminum tubing inserted holes drilled fuselage forward endsbut glued allowed slide freely tail wheel strut flexes drag struts attached main strut via V-shaped piece 030-in music wire pushed through plastic strut covering Slide aluminum drag struts onto V-shaped wire glue place CyA As can see accompa nying photo results obtained make very presentable alternative bare-wire strut Documentation source
