Spring All Scale Fly-In — Azalea City R/C, Mobile, Alabama (April 25, 2009)

April 25, 2009, was the date for the Spring All Scale Fly-In at Azalea City R/C in Mobile, Alabama. What a fly-in!

At 10 a.m. sharp, Event Director Tony Farmer called the group together to welcome everyone and to give out a few safety rules. Everything was ready: the field looked great, registration was quick and easy, and a great lunch was ready to be put on the grill.

What a crowd there was. There were more than 50 registered pilots, and many more who were there to visit and watch the flying. By one count, there were more than 150 airplanes. The aircraft ranged from World War I models to the newest jets, and there were a couple of helicopters. That's what is good about this All Scale format—lots of variety!

Yes, there was a little wind, but it didn't keep anyone on the ground except perhaps a couple of the most wind-sensitive models. The sky was blue and there was plenty of flying.

If you've ever been to Azalea City, you know the lunch is worth coming for even if there is no flying. The hamburgers, hot dogs, and all the extras were great.

They also had a great raffle; the club gave away $300 in gift certificates good at HobbyTown USA of Mobile. HobbyTown owner Rob Baker donated the grand prize for the raffle, a nice-looking ARF.

There were fliers from at least four states. I hope the fall event is even bigger and better! If you have never been to this All Scale event, you need to come next time. I promise you that you will have a great time!
