APRIL 25, 2009, was the date for the
Spring All Scale Fly-In at Azalea City R/C
in Mobile, Alabama. What a fly-in!
At 10 a.m. sharp, Event Director Tony
Farmer called the group together to welcome
everyone and to give out a few safety rules.
Everything was ready. The field looked
great, the registration was quick and easy,
and a great lunch was ready to be put on the
grill.
What a crowd there was. There were more
than 50 registered pilots, but there were many
more who were just there to visit and watch
the flying. By one count, there were more
than 150 airplanes. The aircraft ranged from
World War I models to the newest jets. There
were also a couple of helicopters.
That’s what is good about this All Scale
format—lots of variety!

Mike and Tim Harry with Tim’s 50% Extra
260.
Pete Lawton (Morgan City LA) and his
Griffin jet.
Al Ayler and his twin-engine P-38 Lightning.
Steve Rojecki, Louie Scribner, and Chuck
Mills.
Rob Baker and his turbine-powered Flash
jet.
Wes Batson and Scott Cameron with Wes’
Giant Scale Ultimate Biplane.
Yes, there was a little wind, but I don’t
think it kept anyone on the ground except
maybe a couple of the most wind sensitive.
The sky was blue and there was plenty of
flying.
If you’ve ever been to Azalea City, you
know the lunch is worth coming for, even if
there is no flying. The hamburgers and hot
dogs and all the extras were great.
They also had a great raffle; the club
gave away $300 in gift certificates that were
good at HobbyTown USA of Mobile.
HobbyTown owner, Rob Baker, gave away
the grand prize for the raffle, a nice looking
ARF!
This year there were fliers there from at
least four states. I hope the fall event is even
bigger and better! If you have never been to
this All Scale event, you need to come next
time. I promise you that you will have a
great time!
See you there.
