GASLIGHT DC-3: In a previous column
there were pictures of a DC-3 built by Paul
Johnson who resides in Maine.
I had a conversation with Steve Faber
of Owego, New York (near Binghamton),
who also has a model of the Gaslight DC-
3. A local modeler who has since passed
away, built his. His model has a wingspan
of 144 inches; length of 102 inches; it
weighs 50 pounds; and is powered by two
G-38 engines.
The aircraft is 15-17 years old and has
been flown roughly 20 times.
This is what a DC-3 model with a 12-foot
wingspan looks like in your home.
I assume this is Steve’s son with the
model.

Wingbusters Model Airplane Club: This
club is located in the eastern portion of the
Commonwealth, not far from Plymouth,
Massachusetts. The club has
approximately 100 members and has
several club events each year.
One such event is the annual open
house. The neighbors and area residents
are invited to attend, view the activities,
and enjoy free hotdogs and sodas. One
club member has been known to donate
several homemade apple pies, and that
alone makes attending worthwhile.
Master hotdog chef Bob Brewer is
shown with one of his grandsons.
For the younger people there are
ground schools and a chance to fly a
model using the buddy-box system. The
2003 event was set for June 22, but the
weather forced a move to June 29. Even
with the change of date, the event was
successful.
John Arrigo, club president, furnished
the following pictures.

demonstration to one of the visitors.
One of the ground school graduates is
receiving flight instruction from Bob
Whiting.
Two of the visitors received their ground
school instruction from one of the club
members.
