MAYNARD HILL: I received a letter from
Maynard Hill with the following:
“On October 20, 2004, at 7 p.m., I will
be giving a lecture about our transatlantic
model record at the New England Air
Museum in Windsor Locks, Connecticut.
“The talk is essentially the same story as
the ‘Two Sunsets...’ article in Model
Aviation, January 2004. There is some
embellishment with music and humor and
I’ve generally had appreciative audiences.
“I’ve given the talk to all sorts of groups
ranging from Rotary Clubs to professional
aviation associations, from high school
students to senior citizens, from RC clubs to
my hometown (where there were at least
nine of my cousins!). I have the most fun if
there are aeromodelers in the audience. They
appreciate the difficulties we overcame and
are more receptive to my humor.
“If you can still get an announcement
and description of this event into your
column before October 20, I would
appreciate your doing so. In any event, I
hope you will pass the word and that you
will be able to come.”
This sounds like a fun evening; I hope
you will be able to attend.
495th Scale Show: I will continue from last
month with some more pictures.
This is a nice Aeronca Sedan.
Art Alfano is shown with his latest scale
project. Art is the man behind this show.
Look at the nose art on Mitch Epstein’s
B-17.
Gus Deltwas is shown with his de
Havilland Beaver.
These are two of Jim Fitzharris’s model
cars.
This incredible model boat is by Herb
Cotterly.
Charlie Nelson is shown assembling his
new WACO.
Can it be a J-3 Cub if it is not painted
yellow? The airplane is painted orange.
This Ford V-8 engine was built by Ed
Rogers during a three-year period. No
castings were used.
These pictures were provided by Paul
Gosselin, Art Alfano, and some were mine.
I have been advised that the 495th R/C
Squadron has been recognized as an AMA
Gold Leader Club. Nice job, members!
