Sport Aviator

Sport Aviator is our free, online magazine focused on providing information for newcomers to our sport/hobby. District II Associate Vice President (AVP) Frank Granelli is the Sport Aviator editor.

Roxbury Area Model Airplane Club (RAMAC)

Frank forwarded photos of a couple of events hosted by the Roxbury Area Model Airplane Club (RAMAC) of New Jersey.

  • Cub Fun‑Fly: Each year RAMAC sponsors the Cub Fun‑Fly for area Cub Scouts; turnout is great. The Scouts are working toward their “Take Flight” Cub Scout badges. At this year’s event, Frank, Dan Landis, and other club members taught the basics of flight to the Cub Scouts and some young girls. When a club works with young kids, they are planting seeds for future members 25 years hence.
  • Mall show: RAMAC also participates in a mall show and uses flight simulators to work with kids of all ages.

Rhinebeck Jamboree

AVP Sal Calvagna sent photos of his trip to the Rhinebeck Jamboree last September. If you have never been there and have a love for pre‑WWII aircraft, full scale and smaller, Rhinebeck is a must‑see destination.

  • Fourteen‑year‑old Eric Johnson had a real thrill flying his dad’s 1/3‑scale Sopwith Pup in the midday show at Rhinebeck. Eric is an accomplished pilot and a very helpful young man — just what the future of modeling needs.
  • Marvin “Doc” Erbesfeld came from Florida to show his Top Gun–quality 1/3‑scale Sopwith Camel. The Camel was flown by Ransom Fairchild, also from Florida.

Till next month, Keep ’em Three in the Green.
