160 MODEL AVIATION
IT IS ALWAYS a pleasure to acknowledge
our Leader Clubs when they achieve
milestones. This year we have two Gold
level Leader Clubs that are celebrating five
years in this capacity: the Aero Radio Club
of Syracuse and the Syracuse Thunderbirds.
Congratulations to all of the members for
being involved in this worthwhile program.
Associate Vice President (AVP) Ray
Juschkus and I attended the Whitman Flyers
second annual Electric Fun-Fly, held at the
Bethpage Polo Grounds in Bethpage NY.
Club officers Max Hoffman, Jerry Cardillo,
and Leon Enkowitz.
Ray reported that it was a tremendous
success with 71 registered pilots and more
than 187 models present by 11 a.m.—that’s
30 more fliers than last year.
Plans are already in the in the works for
next year’s event.

On Sunday, June 27, Ray attended two
events. The first was the RC Society of
Marine Park’s fun-fly.
“I attended the first fly-in at Marine Park.
This club has been in existence since 1968
and has a very private flying field. The field
is tucked away in the marshes of Brooklyn,
New York, just off Garritsen Avenue.
“The club consists of a number of
friendly guys who want to help beginners.
President Jose Pete Maldonado is the force
behind this great group of guys. If you are
ever in the neighborhood, bring a plane with
you and fly with this fine group of pilots.”

Tom Mascialino, Pete Maldonado, Junior
Pacheco, Lee Condner.
“After leaving Marine Park, I proceeded to
Lufbery Aerodrome in Cedar Creek Park,
Long Island. It was a perfect day for an event.
“As I approached the field, I saw a fullscale
helicopter from the Nassau County
Police Department parked on the runway.
The crew was walking around talking with
the model heli pilots. Archie Defendini was
responsible for the policecoming to the
Nassau Flyers’ Fifth Annual Heli Fly-In.
“I spoke with CD Ilan Nahoom and his
assistant, Ken Casser, who told me that 33
pilots registered for the heli meet.”

Thanks Ray for being an active AVP!
All of the district’s members need to
become aware of our work with the FAA.
Please pay close attention to the information
that AMA President Dave Mathewson
writes about what AMA sends to you. We
may very well need everyone’s help in
working to protect our right to fly in the
National Airspace.
Until next month, help secure our future
and take a youngster flying!
