10th Annual District II Fun-Fly
The 10th Annual District II Fun-Fly will be held September 23–25 at the Polo Field in Gilbertsville, New York. Our host club this year is the Oneonta Radio Control Flyers (ORCF). The contest director (CD) will be Al Kanser, District II Safety Officer and known for his involvement with the International Miniature Aircraft Association (IMAA). This event is also ORCF’s 20th Annual Fun-Fly and is open to all types and sizes of aircraft and helis. Each registered pilot will receive a free meal.
Come and fly at a great venue with some of the best pilots in the district. The event runs from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and is located at the Gilbertsville Sports Park, Gilbertsville, New York. I will be there with my aircraft on Saturday and Sunday.

Warwick Municipal Airport — Five-Club Fun-Fly
I traveled to Warwick Municipal Airport in Orange County, New York, on Saturday, June 18 for the second annual five-club fun-fly. The event was sponsored by:
- Rockland County Radio Control Club
- Black Dirt Squadron
- Hudson Valley Radio Control Club
- Top O’ New Jersey R/C Club
- Wawayanda Flying Club
Event founder Richard Landis was the CD and chaired the committee, which included:
- Tony Bonanno
- Scott Geller
- John Hagedoorn
- Karl Jacobs
- Dan Landis
- Bruce Leach
- Jim Nelson
- Lou Triozzi
- Barry Yarkon
District II Associate Vice President Frank Granelli and his wife, Ann, attended to fly and support the event with hands-on administrative assistance.
Seventy-four pilots—a remarkable number for a second-year event—plus their crews and friends attended. The pit area was crammed with pop-up tents and aircraft of all sizes and types.
There were three flightlines for fixed-wing, rotary-wing, and amphibian flying. Yes, there is a lake, too. The flying was nonstop and everyone I spoke with was really enjoying themselves.
Collectively the pilots won more than $5,000 in raffle prizes that Dan Landis helped arrange. Donations came from:
- Alan M. Mostek Designs
- Castle Creations
- Futaba
- Great Planes
- Higher Plane Productions
- Hobby Lobby International
- HobbyPartz.com
- Nitro-Models
- Tower Hobbies

In Memoriam
On a personal note, one of my club members, Dan Stubbs, passed away suddenly.
Dan wasn’t an accomplished pilot. He was a man of few words, but they were meaningful, and he was a supporter of STARS club functions. He will be missed.
Come join us at the District II Fun-Fly!
Until next month, help secure our future and take a kid flying!
