Valley Forge Signal Seekers — Opening-Day Picnic and Fun Fly

On June 12, 2010, the Valley Forge Signal Seekers club held its opening-day picnic and fun fly. Besides great food and drink, there were prizes and a noontime demonstration by Scott Shoemaker and Billy Jameson, among others. The Dawn Patrol flew two sorties and filled the sky with classic and unusual World War I airplanes.

Dan Landis, an outstanding young pilot, thrilled everyone with his flying abilities. Dan also helped several modelers with his expertise in setup and flying techniques.

Beckley Model Airplane Club — Flying Site

Nestled in the hills of West Virginia is a great flying site maintained by the Beckley Model Airplane Club. The site is built on a landfill and has been in existence for 15 years.

Recently the club invited other local clubs to visit the flying site and enjoy some of the best ribs in the state. Approximately 40 pilots attended, along with representatives of T&K Hobbies. The weather was great and the flying was excellent. If you ever go through Beckley, West Virginia, give this club a call, check out its field, and do some flying.

Thanks to Chuck Westfall for sending this for the District III report.

Lynn Cole Fly-in (Tiffin, Ohio)

The Lynn Cole Fly-in is an annual event held every July in Tiffin, Ohio. Great weather provided the setting for the Tiffin Ohio R/C Modelers (TORCM) to provide a demonstration for veterans from Sandusky, Ohio.

Demos included:

  • Helicopters
  • Racing
  • Jets
  • World War II aircraft

The veterans shared good stories and enjoyed lunch with the club members. Club officers mentioned to Associate Vice President Joe Vislay that they want to improve their lake to host a float-fly next year.
