As this column was written, the 57th annual Toledo R/C Expo was taking place. The Weak Signals club’s hard work was clearly evident. It was great to see everyone — and thanks to all who stopped by the AMA booth to say hello!

The Central Penn Aeromodelers’ Flea Market in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, was another huge success. For 31 years, this event has provided a mecca for modelers on the East Coast.

AMA President Dave Mathewson and District III Vice President Bob Brown attended the event and provided up-to-date information to the membership. A special thank-you is extended to all of the modelers who acted as hosts for the event.

Valley R/C Model Club — Indoor Flying (Dan Luchaco)

Associate Vice President Dan Luchaco provided the following insight:

“In October 2005 Carl Shay, a member of the Valley R/C Model Club (VRC) in Sayre, Pennsylvania, made arrangements with the Athens School District to rent the elementary school gym for indoor flying during the fall and winter months. All it took was some AMA site insurance and a rent agreement.

“We are now in our sixth season of using the gym twice a month from October through March. In 2005 we had six to eight fliers per two-hour Tuesday evening session; this season we have had as many as 20 pilots. About half are from VRC and the others come from within a 50-mile radius in Pennsylvania and New York.

“All sizes and shapes of indoor planes and helicopters are flown, with many BNFs promoted as soon as the local hobby shop gets them in. What models we flew in 2005 look huge compared to the 6-ounce-or-less favorites of this season.

“While between two and four fly, the rest catch up on the latest in the hobby or glue the parts back on that were knocked off.

“The original article included pictures and names of the regulars at the Valley R/C indoor sessions.”
