THE BRODAK Control Line meet was the
venue in which John Brodak was surprised
with the Model Aviation Hall of Fame
award. District III Vice President Bob
Brown and District VI Vice President
Charlie Bauer presented the award. John is a
deserving recipient for all his service to the
CL community.
Congratulations to the 2011 AMA
Scholarship winners. District III scholars are
James Van Sant, $14,500; and Kylie
Narance, $5,500. Everyone in the Academy
should be proud of the accomplishments of
all of this year’s applicants.
Last year the first annual Holiday Electric
Fly (HEF) was held at the GaREAT Center
in Geneva, Ohio. One-hundred-and-seven
registered pilots and more than 400 airplanes
and helicopters made for a successful event.
The GaReat Complex is 600 x 300 feet.
The size allowed four flightlines to be active
at one time. Combat, Pylon Racing, Carrier
landing, and 3-D events enhanced the three
days of fun. Santa also made a special visit.
The GaReat Center complex is huge. The
building houses a full-size football field with
an Olympic-size track around the perimeter
and several other track-and-field event areas
not pictured. The building also has
grandstand-style seating for as many as
4,000 spectators, two snack bars, and a sitdown
restaurant. And it is climate
controlled!
Sponsors included Horizon Hobby, Lazer
Toys, Luke’s RC Planes, E-flite, JR, Rabid
Models, Toy-n-Hobby Headquarters, True
RC, Ready to Hobby, Extreme Foamies, and
Tech Bond. There is plenty of room for
more sponsors.
This year’s event will be December 2-4,
2011. Make your plans!
Pictures were provided by Berry
Bertagnolli and the club support came from
the Mentor Area RC Club president, Dale
Teis. For more information, go to the HEF
website at www.hef-rcexpo.com. Tony
Husak was the CD.
Chris Justus, promoter of the event,
presents a DX5e to Pat Nguyen, the winner
of the 3-D competition.
Rabid Models 8-foot B-17 is prepared for
flight by co-owner Steve Lowery.
Luke’s RC Planes was one of many vendors.
The Columbiana County Centaur R/C
Club in Lisbon, Ohio, held its annual Senior
Fun-Fly on May 21, 2011. This AMA
sanctioned event is held to show our
appreciation for all senior pilots 60 years old
and more for keeping this hobby alive for
us.
We invite all senior pilots from the tristate
area to join us each year. The shack
ladies offer a free meatloaf dinner each year
for the pilots. We enjoyed the company of
16 pilots Saturday with their flying abilities
and their wisdom of talk.
Joe Seiber was our eldest pilot at the ripe
young age of 84 and 2 months. He received
a new Centaur R/C hat, a medallion, and a
trophy! CD John Young put a lot of work in
this to get our rain-soaked field and grounds
ready for this event. One group of Seniors
drove two hours to enjoy the day with us.
Thanks, guys! Plan on joining us next
year; you will enjoy the fellowship! Enjoy
the pictures of the event, from us to you!

Joe Seiber, 84
years and 2
months young,
was our winner!
Check Shepard ventured all the way from
West Virginia two years in a row to fly his
Cub! Time for a break, it was a long drive
from West Virginia! Thanks for coming!
