ARE YOU interested in participating in one
of the largest model flea markets on the East
Coast? If so, make the trip to the Central
Penn Aeromodelers Association (CPAA)
event on March 8, 2003.
More than 500 tables of model-related
equipment will be available at the Lebanon
Fairgrounds in Lebanon, Pennsylvania.
Richard Nuffort, 612 Becker Drive, Lititz
PA, [email protected], is the contact.
The Vintage Radio Control Society
(VR/CS), a Special Interest Group of the
AMA, hosted its annual Spirit of
Selinsgrove reunion during the Labor Day
weekend at Sayre, Pennsylvania. The
weather was nearly perfect (maybe a bit
breezy), but that did not discourage the more
than 50 fliers who participated, with nearly
100 Vintage Radio Control airplanes.
The three-day affair was filled with
relaxed open flying as well as Vintage AMA
Pattern, offering something for everyone.
Wives were treated to a Saturday afternoon
shopping tour hosted by the executive
council members’ wives and Saturday night
was filled with the annual reunion dinner
enjoyed by all.
Vintage AMA Pattern consisted of Class
I, in honor of Jack Port (rudder and optional
motor control), Class H, in honor of Howard
McEntee (rudder, elevator, motor control),
and Class 111, in honor of Ralph Brooke
(rudder, elevator, aileron and motor control).
Class I was won by Bob Noll, flying a
Royal Rudderbug, followed up by John
Haffner flying a Sterling Rudderbird. Class
II was won by Dick Allen flying a Start
Shark, followed by Scott Wallace flying an
Aristo Cat, and Bob Noll flying a deBolt
Champ.
Class II was won by Charlie Chomos
flying a Kaos.
All fliers participated in selecting the
Best of Pioneer (aircraft designed prior to
January 1, 1950), Best Vintage (January 1,
1950 to January 1, 1966), and Best of
Nostalgia. (January 1, 1966 to January 1,
1970). Charlie Chomos was winner of
Pioneer with his Rudderbug. Vintage was
won by Bob Gardner with a Pegasus, and
Nostalgia was won by Scott Wallace with
his Sun Fli IV. Charlie Chomos with the
Rudderbug won the Spirit of Vintage.
Spot landing was hotly contested
between Bob Noll and Frank Granelli with
Frank winning.
The Technical Achievement Award
commemorating the life and contributions of
the late Walter Good went to Charlie
Chomos flying his Rudderbug on single
channel and escapements.
Each year, the Spirit of Selinsgrove
award is given to that person who has
contributed through dedication, hard work,
and love of vintage aircraft, and who has
done the most to keep VR/CS alive, vibrant,
and growing.
This year, Bob Noll, VR/CS president,
was the winner for continuing the tradition
established by the founders and bringing
new energy and vitality to VR/CS.
VR/CS membership is $20, which
includes a subscription to The Vintage Flier.
Send your application and $20 to Glenn
Flynn, membership chairman, 99 Rob Roy
Rd., Bradford PA 16701. It will be the best
$20 you will spend this year.
Glenn provided the following pictures
that should bring back some memories.

Why not give this activity a try?
The Black Sheep Squadron of Northeast
Pennsylvania have been busy with very
positive activities. Their recent fun-fly
provided a donation to the Valley Santa of
Wyoming Valley. This organization
provides for needy children at Christmas.
The event was held at Fox Crossing
Airport in Falls, Pennsylvania. The club also
held mall shows at the Wyoming Valley and
Viewmont malls in the Scranton and
Wilkes-Barre area. The daylong events
featured an extensive display of model
aircraft, model aviation literature, and video
demonstrations.
Steve Kurimchak provided the
information and following pictures of the
club activity. Additional information can be
found on the club’s Web site at
http://www.blacksheepsquadronpa.org.
Flanking the Black Sheep banner are (L to
R) Benny Padgett, Keith Hazleton, Steve
Kurimchak, Danny Checko, and Al Arnal.
