Last fall the Empire State Indoor
Championships event was held at the
Buffalo Bills’ practice arena in Hamburg,
New York. The event was hosted by the
Western New York Free Flight Society and
The Flying Aces Club.
Included in this event was the Science
Olympiad Wright Stuff program. A number
of schools and individuals participated in
this event.
When the scores were finalized, the team
from the Kane Area Middle School in Kane,
Pennsylvania, was the champion. The team
is comprised of Kevin Leskovec and Dustin
Beane. Congratulations on a great effort!
Kevin Leskovec and Dustin Beane are the
Science Olympiad Champions!
For the past six years Vern Olson has
been the coach for the Kane Team. Each
year, the team has won or placed at regional
level competition. They have been
Pennsylvania State winners twice and have
competed at the Nationals. At the Nationals
in Spokane, Washington, the team placed
ninth.
Special thanks is offered to Vern for his
focus of this positive youth activity.
The 33rd annual Hiking and Soaring
Society event was hosted by the Toledo
Weak Signals in the middle of February.
Sixteen entries braved the extremely cold
temperatures and high winds.

District III Report The Wyoming
Valley R/C Flyers
held its second
annual Wing Full of
Wishes Radio
Control (RC) Air
Show to benefit the
Make-A-Wish
Foundation of
Northeastern
Pennsylvania. The
event was held at
Moon Lake County
Park.
This year’s
activities included
Poko the Clown,
face painting,
raffles, a deejay, a
bake sale, and a
great RC air show.
The Make-A-Wish
families and
sponsors of the
event were able to
try their hand at
flying an RC
airplane. State
Representative
George C. Hasay
also attended and
spoke at the event.
Wings Full of
Wishes 2002 raised
$2,600 and was
enjoyed by
everyone. The
average cost of a wish is approximately $5,000. The club has been able to raise enough
money to fund a wish for a child from the proceeds of the past two years of the event.
Members of the Wyoming Valley R/C Flyers.
A worthwhile donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
