Museum Visit
We were able to celebrate New Year’s Day in a special way this year. The Smithsonian Institution opened a new Air and Space Museum at Dulles Airport, and we decided there was no better way to usher in the New Year than by visiting the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center.
The museum contains aircraft from the early 1900s to the present day. I highly recommend a visit to anyone interested in the history of flight.
The following pictures illustrate some of the collection.
In Memoriam
District III has lost another valuable member. Eva Bittle passed away on December 30, 2003, at age 83.
Eva and her husband Ralph worked tirelessly at local meetings across the Delaware Valley in the 1950s and 1960s, including the Nationals at Willow Grove Naval Air Station. She was a contest director for many years and also served as an associate vice president in District III. Eva was always one who worked so others could fly.
Events
This year is the 50th anniversary of the Weak Signals R/C Show in Toledo, Ohio. The dates are April 2–4, 2004. See the website: http://www.toledoshow.com/ for more information.
We are grateful to Weak Signals for their sponsorship of AMA scholarships and other activities.
Club News
The members of the Black Sheep Squadron of Northeast Pennsylvania continue to enjoy learning the skills of radio-control (RC) flying. The club’s Wings instruction program teaches beginner, intermediate, and advanced skills. A pair of wings is awarded for each level of advancement.
