172 MODEL AVIATION
THIS YEAR the Jackson County
Aeromodelers of Cottageville, West Virginia,
decided to help our troops’ children! The
fliers found out that two units have been
deployed from West Virginia and they
wanted to help.
Saturday, October 6, the club members
produced “Operation Santa Cause.” The
landing fee was an unwrapped toy. With the
help of Toads R/C Hobbies and the Roane
County High Schools Future Farmers of
America (FFA) Chapter, the club raised more
than 150 toys and 20 new 20-inch bicycles
for boys and girls!
The wife of the West Virginia Army
National Guard’s General Tackett was
present. Mrs. Tackett, along with the Family
Readiness Group of the Armed Forces, was
very excited with Operation Santa Cause!
They provided food for the event and
generated many monetary donations to the
group!
Special guest Ronnie London from Air
Thunder Batteries put on one awesome nightflying
program. The club would like to thank
everyone who donated toys and bicycles,
Toads R/C Hobbies, Ronnie London from
Air Thunder Batteries, and the Roane County
FFA Chapter.
I take my hat off to these guys and gals
for helping our troops’ families!
These young ladies were a tremendous help.
A very successful community effort.
The newly formed Oil Creek Flyers of
Titusville, Pennsylvania, conducted the club’s
first turbine meet on October 6, called
Octurbo Fest. CD Jack Graham, Rich Miller
as field control, and the members pitched in
to put on the event.
The meet was held on a 4,900-foot closed
runway, thanks to the cooperation of Jim
Kuhn, director of the Titusville airport
authority. Sixteen entrants with more than 20
aircraft flew in nice surroundings and a
relaxed atmosphere. The public was welcome
and treated to a great show.
Jack Graham’s colorful T-45 by
JetLegends has roughly 80 flights on it with a
Wren 54 turbine and flies wonderfully. Jack
is a liaison/distributor for CamLex
Enterprises and is enthusiastic about the
company’s products.
Dale Edinger from Erie, Pennsylvania,
showed up with his Boomerang XL, a large
model designed and produced in England
with a RAM-1000 turbine. The pure size of
this jet lends itself to nice-flying
characteristics and room for equipment.
MA’s jet columnist Jim Hiller showed up
with his beautiful kit-built BVM Lockheed T-
33 powered by a Wren 54 Mk III Turbine.
The 14-pound-thrust model flies realistically
using a JR 10S radio system.
Norm Meeks of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania,
flew his trusty BVM BobCat with a RAM
FTE-design turbine. He put on a great show.
Bob Belluomini from Cincinnati, Ohio,
flew his Grumania F-100 Super Sabre
powered by a Wren 44 Gold. He also brought
a JePe F-16 all-composite EDF that employs
a 90mm JePe SpiderFan. Powered by a 8S
battery pack, imagine its performance!
Joe Lewis brought a spectacular HP Jets
F-86 with a 63-inch wingspan. He has more
than 45 flights this impressive model.
Dave “Turbo” Dantonio of Irwin flew his
Graupner Comet dual EDF and Greg Rubin
of Erie, Pennsylvania, flew his E-Flite
SuperAirliner EDF. Both flew well.
Mark Palmer of Steubenville, Ohio, flew
his trusty kit-built Reaction 54 powered by a
JetCat P-60. It is a nice jet with excellent
flying characteristics.
Dominic Cognata of Rochester, New
York, stole the show with his 33-pound
Skymaster F-18 and his Tam Jets A-4
Skyhawk. Dominic is an avid member of the
newly formed Oil Creek Flyers.
Jack “Captain Crackers” Graham, CD for
the event, flew his JetLegend F-15 with a
JetCat P-80 turbine and Dave Rigotti of
Chesterland, Ohio, brought his beautiful
BVM KingCat.
Hats of to the Oil Creek Flyers for
running a nice event and definitely one on my
list not to miss next year! Thanks to Leo
Rodriguez, District III associate vice
president, for the information and pictures.
