A GREAT TURNOUT for the Learn to Fly
Day was generated by the Darke County
Aero Modelers Association (DCAMA) of
Greenville, Ohio. The 2009 event had 41
first-time fliers and 10 flew a second time.
There were 36 were boys and 15 girls
ranging in age from four to 65.
Each person who flies receives a ticket
for a hot dog, chips, and pop. According to
Mike Klintworth, DCAMA’s secretary and
newsletter editor, the look on each student’s
face was priceless.
“Watching them when they really ‘get it’
and figure out that they can actually get the
airplane to do what they want it to do, is
very rewarding. It’s amazing how quickly
some of the young ones pick it up.
“This year we donated the profits from
our concessions to the local Big Brothers/
Big Sisters club. We had a great time. Our
club members really get into this event.”
Dave Poole and Kem Stewart are working
with a young student. “Now, when you pull
back on the stick, it goes up.”

ladies who wiggled the sticks that day, Look

Ed Himes provided the following, but
unfortunately the picture was too small to
use.
“Across the United States, many people
make all kinds of efforts to make their AMA
flying field the best it can be; but before this
can happen there must be a field. Here in the
Old Town Valley Flyers R/C Club we have
one such individual and he is Tom Miller.
“Tom is one of the people in this hobby
who has stepped forward decades earlier and
helped to prepare a property that was in no
shape to be a flying site. The property had to
be cleared of trees and brush with bulldozers,
and tons and tons of dirt needed to be added
to what was to be the field for future fliers.
“It is a true testament to a person with a
vision, and many friends, family, and
followers who would work constant hours to
make a project of this magnitude happen.
One person in any club can make a
difference, but several can move mountains.”
The Central Ohio Radio Kontrol Society
(CORKS) held its annual Sky Diver Rally in
Centerburg, Ohio. Contestants from
Washington, Georgia, Indiana, Virginia,
Mississippi, Alabama, Missouri, and
Belgium attended.
The object of the event was to promote
the sport of RC skydiving and to have fun.
Contestants were judged on skydiving
maneuvers as well as the ability to hit the
bull’s-eye at the center of the field.
The winners: Jules Malfliet, Frank Moak,
Gary Van Fossen, Jim Boone, and some of
the hard working CORKS members.
