Reports
This first report was sent in by George Abbott, associate vice president in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Raleigh-Durham R/C Club — Autumn Leaves Fly-in
The Raleigh-Durham R/C Club held its annual Autumn Leaves Fly-in on September 20, 2003. This was only two days after Hurricane Isabel, but there was still a fine turnout with more than 40 pilots registered. There were approximately 150 airplanes and a huge spectator turnout.
In addition to the regular sport models, there were many large 3-D airplanes, a few Park Flyers, and a couple of SPADs (simple plastic airplane design). The weather was great, the field was in excellent shape, and there was a lot of flying.
District of Columbia Radio Control Club — Bealeton Fly-in
The District of Columbia Radio Control Club (DCRC) had its Bealeton, Virginia, fly-in in August of last year. This event began as a Pattern meet 25 years ago but has turned into a three-day event with a full-scale air show and model demonstrations on Sunday as the finale.
Saturday evening features a great meal under a large tent, with pictures taken during the previous two days shown on a large screen. All of this was courtesy of Andy Kane, this year's contest director.
DCRC is a dedicated group, and if you haven't been to one of its events, you are missing out. All the club's events are held at a private airport near the town of Bealeton, Virginia. Maybe I'll see you there next year.
Acknowledgements
I want to thank all of the Contest Board members, contest coordinators, frequency coordinator, and all of the associate vice presidents for a job well done. Most members do not realize how much work these people do for us.
Thank you also for the support of the members who voted to give me another chance. I hope I can earn it. I'm always open to hear what you have to say. Thanks again, and go take a kid flying.
