NEWS FROM COLORADO: The Arvada
Associated Modelers’ (AAM) annual mall
show was held January 23-25, 2004, at the
Westminister Mall in Arvada.
Dave Doty’s scratch-built Beaver.
More than 67 airplanes were present with
47 AAM members showing their wares.
The following photos were taken by Phil
Trowe at the mall show.
Club member Fred Buresh built this Extra
300 LX at 35%. The plans came from Mike
Hurley’s “Project Extra” article in the
January through June 2003 issues of
Model Aviation. The model took Fred six
months to build and flies great at the club
field.
Jim Wallen with his P-51 Mustang.
News from Kansas: It is with great pride
that the R/C Barnstormers will be hosting
the 25th annual US Scale Masters
Championships in the Kansas City area at
the Gardner Municipal Airport, Gardner,
Kansas, September 23-26, 2004.
The Barnstormers want to extend thanks
to the members of the Gardner Airport
Board for their help in again bringing this
prestigious event to the heart of America.
(For those not aware of it, the
championships were held at Flemming Park
in 1985.)
The US Scale Masters Championship
hosts the top of the crop when in comes to
RC Scale aircraft. Competitors from all
corners of the United States, Canada,
Brazil, and Argentina will be participating.
They compete in three classes: Team Scale,
Designer Scale, and Expert Scale.
One day of the competition is devoted
to static judging and three days are
scheduled for flying. This makes for an
exciting event.
All the contestants must qualify for the
championships; there are no special
invitations. There are roughly 19 qualifying
events that take place around the country
throughout the year, and the top 30% in
each class qualify to compete at the US
Scale Masters.
The hospitality of the Kansas City area
is second to none. The RC community does
things right when it comes time to perform
in this area. Many of you may want to get
involved in this event and we welcome the
raised hand.
If you or anyone you know want to
make a financial contribution to help offset
the fixed costs of putting on such a
prestigious event, please contact John
Ostmeyer, the contest director, Pat Hewitt,
the contest manager, or Bill Payne, the
financial manager. (A directory of team
leaders and organizers can be found on the
US Scale Masters’ Web page,
www.scalemasters.org/, with contact
information if you want to contribute or
volunteer your services.)
By the way, US Scale Masters
organization is listed as a charitable
organization and your contributions are tax
deductible. The RC Barnstormers would be
extremely appreciative of any contributions
regardless of the size.
Sponsorship opportunities such as
advertising packages are available for those
wishing more exposure.
