GOOD WEATHER and great events! That's what living in District V means! Let's jump into some reports by my busy associate vice presidents.

Pop Curtis Memorial (Andersonville, GA) — April 1–2, 2006

Bob Dixon sent in a report about the April 1–2, 2006 Pop Curtis Memorial sponsored by Hodges Hobbies in Andersonville, Georgia.

It was another great fly-in for 2006 with the annual Pop Curtis Memorial held at Hodges Hobbies. Mac's flightline was nearly covered from end to end. This fly-in always features many active pilots, demonstrations, vendors, and good food. There were some clouds and chills in the morning, but a great time was had by all.

Mac flew his fabulous B-29 several times and thrilled the crowds with his performance. This is truly the highlight of every Pop Curtis Memorial. You may see more by going to www.hodgeshobbies.com. Here are some pictures I took.

ARCC Chili Fly (Atlanta, GA) — New Year's Day 2006

Fred McClellan reported on the Atlanta RC Club's (ARCC) Chili Fly held New Year's Day 2006.

This is an annual event and was a bit odd only in that the calendar must have been all wrong; the weather was more like late April than January 1. Members and guests kicked off the New Year by putting away large amounts of chili and "fixins," flying until the sun went down, and in mid-afternoon they held the first club meeting of the New Year.

The ARCC flightline was a busy place with new models being flight tested and older models being tuned up for the flying season—not that Atlanta has that much non-flying weather. ARCC operates the only flying site inside Atlanta's infamous I-285 perimeter and the site is one of the oldest continuously operated flying sites in North Georgia. The club's Web site is www.atlrcclub.com.

Borinquen Fly-In (Puerto Rico) — April 9, 2006

Richard Prann in Puerto Rico reported on the Borinquen Fly-In and fundraiser for a young man named Sebastian Aldrich.

On Sunday, April 9, the Borinquen RC Model Club organized a fly-in to raise funds for a very special kid. Sebastian Aldrich is a seven-year-old who was born with spina bifida. Seba, as he is affectionately known, was to be operated on in Boston Children's Hospital to remove a tumor from his spine. The operation had to be postponed until June 12 because Seba contracted influenza before the operation.

We organized the fly-in in a week. More than 60 pilots showed up. We were recommending a $10 donation per pilot. Not once did I have to ask for the donation. Every pilot and even some spectators made the donation happily. This has been one of the most fulfilling moments for me in the hobby.

We wish Seba and his family all the best.
