HI, AGAIN. This will be my final column
as your AMA District V vice president (VP).
AMA has hired me to take over the position
of AMA Flying Site Assistance Coordinator.
This is a result of the reorganization of the
program at the direction of the Executive
Council.
My new job does not allow me to be a
contract employee of AMA and still serve
on the Executive Council, so, as of June 1,
2010, I will be stepping down as VP and
will be replaced by Associate Vice President
(AVP) Jose Soto of Apopka, Florida. Jose
will serve out the remainder of 2010, which
is the final year of my second term.
Elections for District V will be held in the
fall of 2010.
Jose has served well as an AVP and has
repeatedly demonstrated his desires for
AMA to grow and prosper. His background
as a club president gives him excellent
insight into today’s needs of AMA clubs and
members. I hope you will support him in the
same way that you have supported me over
these past five-and-a-half years.
I will not be completely out of the
District V picture. I am going to work with
Jose as an AVP for the southeast Georgia
area.
I can’t express how proud I am to have
served the members of District V. I also
want to thank all of those who have worked
with me as AVPs.
I don’t want to forget those behind the
scenes such as District Safety Coordinator
Red Scholefield, webmaster Bill Davison,
and our RC, CL, and FF contest
coordinators. These people have worked
hard to serve the members, and I want to say
thank you!
I also want to express my thanks to those
members of the AMA Executive Council.
They are a great bunch of people who spend
countless hours as volunteers to serve the
membership.
Thanks for allowing me to be heard at
meetings and represent District V. I will
miss serving with you as district VP, but
will be moving to another position where we
will still be working together.
As I change my position within AMA,
you can be sure that I will keep the members
and clubs in the forefront. As this new
position develops, you will be hearing from
me!
Following is Jose’s brief introduction of
himself.
Fly High!
Hello, fellow
modelers. My name
is Jose Soto, and I
have stepped into
Tony Stillman’s
gigantic shoes!
Tony has done a
fantastic job of
getting District V
geared up and
running and positive changes in the
organization have opened up opportunities
for us to serve you better.
I have been an AVP and frequency
coordinator in District V for awhile, and I
enjoy serving the AMA membership to the
best of my abilities. It will be my pleasure to
serve you in this position and I hope to meet
all of you whether it is by e-mail, telephone,
or in person.
If you have any questions, e-mail me and
I will get them answered for you.
As you may know, we have a need for
AVPs in some areas of the district,
particularly in Tennessee, Mississippi, and
Alabama. If you are an AMA Leader
Member and are interested, drop me a note;
this is the best opportunity for you to get
involved in the growth of your sport and
you’ll be helped by some of the best leaders
the AMA has in District V!
I look forward to serving you with
enthusiasm and integrity.
—Jose
