HI, GANG! I hope you are all taking good
care in this heat. It is bad enough to cause
heat exhaustion or a stroke.
I have been working with Paul Verger,
associate vice president (AVP) in
Mississippi, on an award we will be
presenting to members of the district who
merit such an accolade; it is called the ACE
award (thanks to Paul’s wife, Suellen).
ACE stands for “Acknowledging
Contributions of Excellence,” and it will
be awarded to individuals whom area
AVPs nominate. I will review the
nomination, along with other key AMA
members, and we will proceed from there.
Once the award has been granted, the
appropriate AVP in the district will
personally present the award to the
individual.
I believe this award will identify those
members who go above and beyond for the
club, sport and community. It is a great
tool to identify potential leaders whose
talents we can utilize for growing the ranks
of the AMA.
I urge all of you to continue promoting
the hobby; it is you, the AMA member,
who leads model aviation!

Hank Cooper, an AVP in Mississippi, submitted the following report.
“June 26 was the date for Capitol City Radio Control Club’s (CCRCC)
Magnolia Classic Fly-In. This annual event is held at the club’s home field, located
at the Buddy Butts Park in Jackson, Mississippi.
aAlthough unsuitable weather forced the club to reschedule from the traditional
April date, June conditions were much better with clear skies and light winds.
Temperatures later rose to the mid-90s, but pilot and spectator attendance was good
and everyone present had a great time with plenty of flying and fellowship.
“Pilot registration was handled by CD and veteran RC modeler Oscar Tissue and
assisted by fellow club member Jerry Bowen.
“A trademark of CCRCC-hosted events includes engraved plaques for pilot
awards and numerous prizes and merchandise for the spectator raffles. This year’s
raffle featured a complete RC flight simulator and gift certificates from the local
HobbyTown USA.
“CCRCC events always feature a great noontime meal and this year was no
exception. Club chef DJ Powell, assisted by Randy Erwin, prepared the home-style
burgers and grilled sausage dogs.
“The club hosted the 2010
International Miniature Airplane Club
Classic on August 7 and will host the
Fall Halloween Fly-In on October 24.
For more information, visit the club’s
Web site at www.ccrcc.org.”
